Once done, restart your Surface to reinstall the drivers back successfully. If after restarting the Surface device, the battery 1 is still a 0%, then what I can highly recommend is to reset the device back to factory settings.

Once done,restart your Surface and check if the battery 1 is already charging. When using the book whilst charging it gets very hot, (nearly can't touch the center of the screen) even if it is just the background items running (hence the factory reset I am now doing) When the batteries are charged it cools down.
