Digital game distribution platform GOG has unveiled an admirable initiative to preserve past classics forever–online and offline.

A firm literally named for “Good Old Games” is returning to that idea, spending its own resources to keep classic games running well on modern systems.

Good Old Games (GOG.com) has launched what it calls the GOG Preservation Program, allowing you to keep playing “up to date” PC games even when the developers have stopped supporting them. GOG has placed 100 games in the program,

Suddenly, the game is dead. After firmly establishing itself as a DRM-free alternative to Steam for gaming classics, the folks at GOG.com have escalated their war on game obsolescence. This is the birth of the GOG Preservation Program.
