Walmart (NYSE:WMT) will offer its customers the option to pay for their purchases through instant payments from their bank accounts in 2025, sidestepping credit and debit card networks, according to a media report.

Walmart Inc. customers will soon have the option to pay directly from their bank accounts with instant transfers for online purchases. The enhanced feature is a flash point in the escalating tensions between merchants and the card networks setting the fees for payment processing.

By enabling instant settlement for bank payments at checkout, the retailer is adding speed to an option that reduces card transaction fees. But getting consumer buy-in may be a challenge.
