A man was arrested in Dodge County after officials say he tried to defraud a county resident of more than $81,000.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) - The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is warning of a new phone and FaceTime scam. They say that scammers are using phone calls and FaceTime video calls to contact locals, posing as officers or deputies from various agencies to steal personal information or extort money.

A sheriff’s office has warned people of a growing phone scam involving fake deputies. Calls have been to made people identifying themselves as members of the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, according to a social media post. They tell the caller they have confidential documents and should call them back at the number provided.
