PHOENIX — Republican David Schweikert has won an eighth term in an affluent congressional district in the Phoenix area by fending off a challenge from a Democratic former state lawmaker.

Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ) won reelection to represent Arizona ’s 1st Congressional District, which includes Scottsdale and parts of Tempe and Phoenix. He won over former Democratic state Rep. Amish Shah with 52% of the vote to Shah’s 48%, with 95% of the vote being counted so far. The Associated Press called the race at 10:03 p.m. Sunday.
