This is probably the best and clearest view of a fjord with generally easy access. We drove up with our rental car and were able to find parking easily in early September. The drive up was definitely… Full review by Kim D

This viewpoint… wow! Fortunately, it’s not super crowded, but the views are spectacular. Skip a tour bus, and rent an eMobility car (Twizy car) in Flam. You won’t regret the views or the car experi… Full review by NOLAtravels504

The whole of the Norwegian fjords are well worth a visit, so beautiful and lovely clean fresh air. Cruising is the best way to see it all. Full review by Winks6

We drove up to the top from Aurland. It is a long switchback road barely wide enough for two cars to pass by each other and often only one lane wide so cars have to pull off to let traffic going the other way get by. On one of these instances one car nearly dropped one wheel off the edge of the road with a hundreds of feet drop off. We saw a family with kids hiking up the road, about 6-7 miles by my estimation to get to the top. If you REALLY enjoy hiking, go for it, but beware of traffic and it could be unsafe for pedestrians. I don't feel it is terribly steep and road is paved, so as far as strenuous not terrible. In my opinion, other than the exercise you get, I would not hike it because once to the top you will probably only spend about 30 minutes to an hour there. Nothing else to do but walk out on the walkway. Alternatively, if you don't have a car, there is a shuttle bus that can take you to the top. I believe it about $72 USD per person round trip.
Q:
Any recommendations to get up there if we are staying in Aurland without a car?
A:
You can get a bus excursion up there - check out at the homepage for visitflam - it’s NOK 335 for a tour
